Organic productions: All Apofruit Italia’s plants are certified for storage and handling of organic products. Six plants in particular are also certified for processing and packaging operations.
EUREPGAP: the EUREPGAP protocol established the ‘good agricultural practices’ (Good Agricultural Practice – Gap), namely the basic elements in the development of the best practices in fruit and vegetable production. This protocol was defined by the EUREP (Euro-Retailer Produce Working Group), which is a body joined by the main European retail chains to fulfil the growing needs for food safety guarantees and environmental protection. The requirements envisaged by the protocol are concerned with traceability, environmental aspects, product growing methods, workers’ health and safety, company management. Apofruit Italia has been certified against the ‘option 2’, attesting that the cooperative manages and coordinates all its farms in order to comply with the set requirements. At present, there are 100 farms working in compliance with the Eurepgap protocol.
BRC: The BRC standard (Technical Standard and Protocol for Companies Supplying Retailer Branded Food Products) is widely acknowledged in the UK and is rapidly spreading in the rest of Europe. Its purpose is to guarantee that the products bearing this label have been obtained according to precise quality requirements. This standard, developed by the British Retail Consortium, identifies the basics of a management system focused on product quality and health. Seven Apofruit Italia’s plants are certified against the BRC standard.
IGP: Four plants are certified for processing and packaging of IGP (Indication of the Protected Geographical Area) and DOP (Protected Designation of Origin) products. .
